Research ethics: global topics

This book indicates some of the issues that have run through the history of research ethics — Nazism, the Nuremberg Code, the Declaration of Helsinki, the Tuskegee experiment, the Belmont Report, and the CIOMS Guidelines. The chapters also address some contemporary issues which are especially challenging for the work of ethical review committees. The topics include recurrent themes in the international debate, such as the meaning of free and informed consent or post-trial access, and issues silenced by the Latin American ethical discussion, such as study participant remuneration or the ethics review of social research. These were some of the issues faced by a group of authors who represent the disciplinary and argumentative diversity of the international community of scholars in research ethics.
