Being careful not to mistake scientific objectivity for political asepsis, precisely because of the intrinsically political nature of the analysis, the work condensed in this book contributes to the construction of appropriate theoretical tools to understand, criticize, and transform asymmetrical power relations based on gender. The chapters address different articulations between gender normativity, violence, and criminalization processes, dealing with central themes such as domestic violence, the ineptitude of the Brazilian prison system to meet the basic needs of cis and transgender women, the growth of female incarceration, and the strategies of emancipation and disruption of barriers imposed by the patriarchy.
