This book is the result of the efforts of several authors with a common objective: how to ensure that the egalitarian principles of the 1988 Brazilian Constitution are updated in the implementation of assistance policies for the population with disabilities. The main concern is a government program called Continuous Cash Benefit (Benefício de Prestação Continuada – BPC in Portuguese), a cash transfer to elderly people or low-income people with serious disabilities. The book addresses the issue of how to improve the design of the assistance policy, so it is fair to this population.
