As spaces to promote citizenship, schools must be democratic and inclusive. A school that promotes gender equality is a pedagogical space where it is discussed how gendering is much more than nature or biology — it is also a political regime of life. We thus believe that a school is a place for teaching mutual respect. This does not mean that schools will compete with domestic or religious spaces — there are moral values that we learn and teach in our private lives. However, schools are the places where we learn to coexist with those who are different from us. Children see that there are various colors, religions, and ways of being in the world. A school that promotes gender equality is a crucial space to build a society free of hatred, violence, or harassment.
