Reproductive justice broadens perspectives on sexual and reproductive rights, and it is directly connected to social justice. Its aim is for all people to decide if, how, and when to have children, start a family or build other networks of care and well being. It also aims for all people to have access to resources and policies that protect these life projects. Gender inequalities that currently exist in society turn women’s and gender-diverse bodies into central objects of State control, patriarchy, racism, ableism, and lgbtqia+phobia, harming people’s lives and the development of social relationships that have respect and mutual care as their foundations. Thus, it is important that motherhood is not understood as every woman’s biological destiny, and that oppression markers are observed in sexual and reproductive hierarchies.
