Composed of relatively independent articles, the book provides a broad overview of bioethics, which is in fact a new field — a consequence of the research in medicine and biology over the last twenty or thirty years. The first part of the book traces a history of the subject, including an article on bioethics in Brazil. The following parts address a wide variety of topics, some of which are current sources of controversy and discussion around the world: cloning, research with human beings, euthanasia, organ trade, genetic control, anencephalic babies etc.
